Emil Hansson is a major doubt for Birmingham City’s trip to Wembley after picking up an injury in training earlier this week.

Hansson missed Blues’ midweek win at Bristol Rovers and looks set to sit out of the meeting with Barnsley at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Saturday.

The 26-year-old Swede has already missed two chunky spells this season with muscular injuries but Chris Davies believes the winger will play again before the final day of the League One campaign on May 3.

Blues’ date with Peterborough United in the Vertu Trophy final at Wembley next weekend could well come too soon for Hansson though.

Davies said: “Frustratingly for Emil and us, he picked up a bit of a knock in training the day before the game, so that’s disappointing.

“It’s not a season-ender, it will be a few weeks maximum. We’ll have to see how he goes in the next few days.”

Blues have also been without club captain Krystian Bielik and utility man Taylor Gardner-Hickman recently. Bielik has missed the last two games and Gardner-Hickman is coming up to a month on the sidelines.

“Taylor is close to training with the team again,” Davies added. “That is scheduled for early next week so he’s pretty much there, more or less, but then you need to build up again.

“Krystian Bielik has just been managing a niggle. It’s nothing major but it’s something we’re working with him on.”
