Danny Mills believes Patrick Bamford is ‘better’ than possible signing of Liverpool youngster

Danny Mills has claimed that Leeds United would be better off with Patrick Bamford than possibly signing Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster in an interview with Football Insider.

Mills thinks that Bamford is the better option as he has more experience in both the Championship and the Premier League than 20-year-old Brewster who is yet to make a senior appearance in the top flight for the Reds.

Brewster has made 11 appearances in the Championship for Swansea this season whom he joined on loan in January and has so far scored four goals for the Welsh side.

There were reports that Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa was interested in the signing of Brewster in January but he ultimately lost out to the Swans who were willing to offer regular first-team football which was demanded by Jurgen Klopp.

Former Leeds United defender Mills gave his views on Brewster and said: “I would only see him as a squad player. He is not ready to lead the line, that is for sure. You would need somebody with out-and-out experience of the Premier League.”

“You might as well stick with Bamford if you are going to go with Rhian Brewster. Undoubtedly he has got talent but he is unproven.”

“If you are going to replace somebody you have to have the guarantee that they are better than what you have got.”

Liverpool have Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane occupying the forward three positions at present and it appears highly unlikely Brewster will be able to force his way into the first-team reckoning in the near future.

A move to Elland Road may prove fruitful but whether Bielsa will be open to taking a gamble on an unproven striker remains to be seen.
