Ipswich Town striker Aaron Drinan has joined Ayr United on loan, as announced by their official club website this afternoon.

The youngster will spend the rest of the season on loan with the Scottish Championship side.

Drinan, who is 21 years-old, has spent the first half of this season out on loan in Sweden in their second tier with Stockholm-based GAIS. However, he failed to score in eight appearances in the Superettan. He returned to Portman Road last month after the conclusion of the Swedish campaign.

The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has never made a senior appearance for the League One side but has been on the bench for them on a handful of occasions in the past. As well as going out on loan to GAIS, the forward has also spent time away in non-league at Sutton United.

He signed for Ipswich in January 2018 from Irish side Waterford and penned a deal until 2020, meaning he is out of contract at the end of this season.

After signing him for Ayr, their boss Mark Kerr has told their website: “He is a different striker to what we have got already, he has good height and will be able to stretch the game for us. He has already had a couple of loans and played for Ireland under 21s so we are getting him at the right time. Aaron is hungry to succeed and we are thrilled to have got him.”

Drinan could make his debut for Ayr in the Scottish Cup tomorrow against Ross County.
