Three things to expect from Charlton Athletic vs West Brom

West Bromwich Albion take on Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Saturday at 3pm as both sides look to get back to winning ways.

It will be the second of two meetings in six days following their Emirates FA Cup third-round tie last Sunday where the Baggies defeated the Addicks 1-0.

Charlton have a real injury crisis at present with Lee Bowyer having claimed he couldn’t rest as many players as he would have liked in the FA Cup due to the absentees within his squad.

Albion will be looking to try and return to the top of the Championship and here we take a look at three things we can expect in Saturday’s game:

PLENTY OF GOALS

West Brom are the highest scorers in the division and play such free-flowing football at times that with the wealth of chances they create there is surely bound to be a glut of goals. The Baggies have only failed to score twice this season, in their 1-0 and 2-0 defeats to Leeds United and Middlesbrough respectively. Charlton, on the other hand, have conceded 37 goals this campaign and are languishing in 19th place in the division. Despite their poor form, they have still been scoring with three goals netted against Bristol City on Boxing Day and two goals scored against QPR just before Christmas proving both sides are more than capable of scoring goals.

THE RETURN OF GRADY DIANGANA

On-loan winger Grady Diangana has been a revelation since his move to the Hawthorns from West Ham United but he has been missing in recent weeks with a back injury. In this time, West Brom have failed to win thus highlighting his importance to Bilic’s team. His pace and trickery not only push the team forward but he creates space for his teammates and with Bilic confirming last week that he should be available for this encounter, Albion could be provided with a timely boost.

TOUGH DECISIONS FOR LEE BOWYER

The injuries to Charlton have had a real effect on the side as they look to maintain their status in the Championship following promotion last season. Lyle Taylor, Chuks Aneke, Macauley Bonne and Jonathan Leko are all of the strikers they have missing through injury and this has taken a real toll on their squad. Lee Bowyer will surely have to bring in some fresh faces during the transfer window but he will be faced with some tough selection decisions for this game.
