Match ends, Burnley 4, Peterborough United 2.
Jay Rodriguez scored twice against Peterborough as Burnley cruised into the FA Cup fourth round.
He tapped in from close range to open the scoring before Erik Pieters made it two with a 25-yard half-volley.
Jeff Hendrick scored Burnley's third inside 23 minutes with the help of a deflection, before Ivan Toney pulled a goal back for Posh before half-time.
Rodriguez scored again after the break and Ricky Jade-Jones added a second for Peterborough late on.
In what was the first FA Cup meeting between the two sides, Sean Dyche made eight changes to the Burnley side that lost to Aston Villa on New Year's Day, but their experience still shone against Darren Ferguson's team, who are sixth in League One despite winning only one of their past six matches.
Following Rodriguez's opener, which came after Posh stopper Christy Pym had saved a Chris Wood point-blank header, the Clarets - who are 15th in the Premier League - went two up when Pieters chested the ball down before his left-foot strike found the bottom corner.
In a rare early foray forward for Peterborough, debutant Reece Brown - who joined on loan from Huddersfield on Friday - went close to a first goal, but the ball was soon in the back of Pym's net again, Hendrick's strike from outside the area wrong-footing the goalkeeper after a deflection off Mark Beevers' boot.
Peterborough pulled a goal back through Toney before the break, their top scorer latching on to a Matthew Lowton mistake to round Joe Hart moments after the former England keeper had scuppered a chance in front of goal.
Rodriguez's second of the day came after clever play by Hendrick and Aaron Lennon, the latter feeding an inch-perfect ball through to his Burnley-born team-mate to slot under Pym.
Posh academy graduate Jade-Jones pulled a second goal back for his side with less than 15 minutes remaining after Pieters had cleared a Toney effort off the line.
Hendrick nearly scored his second in the dying moments of injury time, rattling a free-kick against the bar.

'A very professional performance' - what they said
Burnley manager Sean Dyche speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a good performance. Darren [Ferguson] has got a good side and we know they are good offensively.
"We knew we could affect them offensively and we did very early in the game.
"We've had a tough period, and there wasn't any sign of that. It was a very confident performance.
"I thought the energy of the side was important, to go out on the front foot.
"It was a very professional performance from all involved.
"We've had a tough Christmas spell and we've got tough games coming, but we took today seriously and we'll be looking for that again [in the fourth round]."
Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson speaking to BBC Sport: "Credit to my players, they kept going when they were 3-0 down to a Premier League team. It's difficult, there's no doubt about it.
"Ivan's goal gave us hope going into half-time and then we started again really well.
"We came off the pitch and got a good clap from our fans. We can take some positives out of the game, two goals.
"We've got to take a bit of belief out of it. For long periods of the game, we didn't look too much out of the game, but the start killed us.
"There were parts of the performance I liked."

Rovers are a laughing stock beaten by 10 men Birmingham in the 90th min it was like music to my ears . How the times have changed hahaha
When are Liverpool fans going to stop moving about Gomez? It was a good challenge, agreed by everyone outside Liverpool. Get over it. Just a case of men against boys I guess. You must also not have been watching Liverpool too closely over the years as you have had some real bruisers in your teams so people in glass houses.....
