Lambert: Injury Concerns at Centre-Half Ahead of Coventry Trip
Friday, 6th Dec 2019 11:19

Town boss Paul Lambert admits he has a few injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s League One clash against Coventry City at St Andrew’s with his centre-halves an area of concern.

Asked about Cole Skuse, who filled in at the centre of the defence at Peterborough on Wednesday before being subbed at half-time as a precaution due to a hip problem, Lambert was hopeful the veteran midfielder would be OK.

“I think so, I’m not sure at this minute but it seems not too bad, so we’ll see what happens,” he said.

Toto Nsiala might have played the last two cup matches but for a minor hamstring problem, but Lambert is hopeful the ex-Shrewsbury man might be available soon.

“Hopefully he’ll be OK for next week,” he said. “It’s just a small little problem with his hamstring but hopefully he’ll be OK.”""

Lambert says there are one or two other worries going into the second of three matches against the Sky Blues: “We’ve got some injuries doubts, but that’s football, that’s what happens.”

The Blues boss hinted that central defence was an area where he had one or two concerns after the Peterborough match when speaking about youngster Alex Henderson being given his debut and he admitted that there are worries among his centre-halves, skipper Luke Chambers, Luke Woolfenden and James Wilson having started the last league game against Wycombe Wanderers in a back three.

“There are a few of them that are struggling at the minute,” he confirmed. “I’ve got a few, injuries are starting to mount up.”

Town will also be without striker James Norwood on Saturday with the former Tranmere man having picked up his fifth booking of the season against the Chairboys.

Regarding Kane Vincent-Young, who is out until February having undergone a second groin operation recently, he added: "Obviously he's feeling a bit down because of the injury and things like that, so that’s been a blow because of the way he’s been.

"We just have to get him through that in the next few months and keep his spirits up."

Hardly likely to be too serious, no Manager tells the oposition a day ahead of the match that he is he is struggling with his central defenders!

Skuse offers nothing positive, he should be backup at best. Time to remove the shackles
