Ipswich Town under-21's were beaten 2-1 by Peterborough United at their training ground in the Professional Development League Two South this afternoon.

John McGreal's side had won three of their last four league fixtures, having beaten AFC Bournemouth 4-2 at Portman Road last time out.

Pemi Aderoju scored two early goals for Posh, before Emmanuel Okunowo pulled a goal back in the second half. Town pushed hard, but they were unable to rescue a point.

The young Blues had the worst possible start as they found themselves two goals behind in the opening three minutes, which started when they conceded a penalty in the opening seconds of the match.

Aderoju stepped up to convert his spot kick, and he scored his second of the afternoon a minute later as a cross from the right allowed the forward slot home.

Town did have ball in the back of the net in the 22nd minute as Daniel O'Connor fired home, but the defender was adjudged to be offside.

They came close just before half-time when Tommy Taylor got into a good position, but he fired his effort wide of the target. McGreal rolled the dice by bringing on Emmanuel Okunowo at the break, which helped them get a goal back.

The midfielder's classy finish got the visitors back into the game in the 73rd minute, allowing them to push for a late equaliser in the final stages of the game.

They came close to finding it in the 81st minute when Taylor was involved again, but he couldn't keep his effort down as his side ultimately fell to a defeat.

The under-21's will look to get back to winning ways when they host Burnley on Tuesday, April 9th.

Town XI: Binns, Agbaje (c) (Lavin), H Barbrook, Mazionis, O’Connor, Foyo (Okunowo), Nwabueze, Turner (Haddoch), Taylor, Roberts, Morgan.
